This month we introduce you to Liv Fromm, iProov’s Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging Manager. Diversity and inclusion are very important at iProov – they sit at the core of our technology, our products, and our teams. Liv’s role involves ensuring that everyone at iProov feels like they belong. Hear about her journey into HR and what it takes to become an iProover.
Welcome Liv! You have a very interesting role as iProov’s Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging Manager. Can you tell us a bit about what attracted you to working in diversity and inclusion?
As a child, I was always a little bit different to everyone else. Socializing was never my strong suit and, as a result, I was bullied at school. But the thing that always kept me going was knowing that one day I’d be able to ensure that nobody else was made to feel the way I did back then.
I knew I wanted to make an impact but I didn’t know how to at that point. As a queer woman, I worked on building LGBTQ allyship groups in college. I discovered that they had an LGBTQ certification that I could add alongside my degree. Later, I also added Gender and Women’s studies.
Over the years, I have built up LGBTQ allyships in the companies I’ve worked in and I’ve volunteered at Pride celebrations – I started the first LGBTQ Inclusion Group in Scottsdale, Arizona!
I knew I wanted to work in a space where I could help make people feel like they belong as themselves in their workplace. That’s when I found iProov. My boyfriend works in A.I., and said “this sounds like a cool company”. So here I am, finally doing what makes me tick, and I’m the happiest I’ve probably ever been.
That is quite the journey! So apart from the connection to A.I., what attracted you to iProov?
I love a startup. I come from a family of entrepreneurs and so I love companies that have built themselves from the ground up, because that’s what I’ve been around my whole life.
I’m also really interested in deepfakes. When I spoke to the recruiter for this role, we kind of went down a rabbit hole talking about deepfakes and I was like, you know, iProov has a really cool concept for helping the world to deal with the issues that deepfakes bring to society – can we really believe what we see with our own eyes? How do we trust in a world where things can be faked so convincingly? We’re also growing, which is exciting for me and something to make my mark on.
What does your role here at iProov involve?
My role involves education and training to ensure that people within iProov understand the concepts of diversity, inclusion and belonging in the workplace. We take diversity and inclusion very seriously at iProov – our products are designed to ensure that they can be used by the widest possible audience and so we need to build and grow teams to support that, as well as ensuring that iProov remains a really great place to work.
How would you describe the iProov culture?
It’s vibrant. Everyone’s really passionate about the product, and they’re really passionate about wanting people to feel included. It’s definitely a different culture to the ones I’ve been around before, but there’s something so refreshing about a startup environment where everyone has the same vision and they’re excited for what comes next. You can definitely sense that around here.
I agree: everyone here is so motivated by their work. It’s a great environment to be in. What would you say to a person thinking about joining iProov?
The number one thing is: you have to be autonomous and a self-starter. Number two is don’t be afraid of a challenge! No one here is afraid of a challenge. Ambition goes a long way.
I would also say be prepared to put a lot of hard work in but know that you are going to be rewarded at the end of the day, and you have people here who will support you.
Thank you, Liv! Any closing remarks before we end?
My final point would be: I was hired because I understand diversity and inclusion. So if you work at iProov already, or do end up working here, come and talk to me! Diversity matters, whether you consider yourself diverse or want to know more about how you can support diversity in the workplace, I’m here to help.
