“We’re solving a global problem. I want us to create trust in people online, everywhere.” — Andrew Bud, Founder and CEO, iProov
Andrew Bud CBE FREng, iProov’s Founder and CEO, has been named as one of The LDC Top 50 Most Ambitious Business Leaders for 2021.
The program, which is supported by The Times of London and now in its fourth year, celebrates the inspiring leaders behind some of the UK’s most successful and fast-growing medium-sized firms.
Of Andrew, the LDC stated: “Few people have made a bigger impact on technology than Andrew Bud CBE FREng. But he believes his work on nuclear fusion and his pioneering inventions within mobile telecoms will pale in comparison to the achievements of his latest business, iProov. Launched in 2013, the company uses its patented authentication Flashmark technology to create identity assurance that works on any personal device.”
Andrew elaborated; “Since 2010 I’ve been concerned by the problem of proving that someone is whom they claim to be online, robustly and inclusively across all kinds of devices. Society really needs this to be done well. I was told this was an insoluble problem. That kind of challenge is irresistible to an engineer, which is what I am.”
Andrew founded iProov, and its team set about solving the issue of proving user identity in a way that is both secure and simple to use, while maximizing user privacy. iProov’s patented technology, Genuine Presence Assurance, pioneered the use of colored light to verify that an individual using a mobile device or computer or unsupervised kiosk, is the right person, a real person, and that they are authenticating right now.
Genuine Presence Assurance is now being used by governments, banks and other organizations globally, including the US Department of Homeland Security, the UK Home Office, the National Health Service (NHS), the Australian Taxation Office, the Singapore Government, Rabobank, ING and many more.
During the first half of 2021 alone, iProov saw a 15x increase in the number of people verified using its technology versus the same time period last year. Genuine Presence Assurance solidified its global market leadership, with verifications growing at a consistent rate of 25% per month worldwide.
iProov continues to rapidly add to its worldwide team to meet the demand of its business growth spanning government, health, travel, financial services and ID providers. iProov was also awarded numerous prestigious awards, including Best Biometric Solution at the 2021 Cyber Security Global Excellence Awards.
“It is wonderful to be recognized as one of the UK’s most ambitious business leaders,” Andrew said. “iProov has created a secure, simple, privacy-respecting solution to a global cybersecurity problem and I’m privileged to be leading an extraordinary team whose shared ambition is to make the internet a safer place.”
